Elise Mendelle is a figurative artist originally from Canada, now living and working in the UK with her family. She aims to capture the essence of the female form through mood, energy, feeling, and emotion, with as few brush marks as possible. Her acrylic paintings are contemporary and minimal, referencing style, fashion and interiors – and are an investigation into how women connect with the modern and ever changing world.

The artist says that ‘by withholding some of the details of the women in my paintings, I make it possible for the viewer to place themselves into each scene, building their own confidence and narrative.’ The anonymity of the work, alongside its familiarity, gives the pieces resonance and significance for each individual person.
